Picture Australia has been absorbed into Trove. It was originally launched in September 2000, and at that time, was a unique and groundbreaking service, bringing together digitised images from cultural heritage collections around Australia for not only all Australians to see but also the world. The Ryerson Index is an index to death notices appearing in current Australian newspapers. It also includes some funeral notices, probate notices, and obituaries.


AUSTRALIA - THE ENEMY AT HOME - GERMAN INTERNEES IN WWI
During World War One nearly 7000 so-called ‘enemy aliens’ were interned in camps in New South Wales. One was young Bavarian photographer Paul Dubotzki whose remarkable photographs record the experience of internment from 1915 to 1919. Holsworthy at Liverpool was one of these camps.

WW1 Deserters from Liverpool Military Camps 1914 - 1915

A list of some of those deserters and their details

Warrants have been issued by the Military Authorities for the arrest of the under mentioned men charged with desertion from the Commonwealth Expeditionary Forces:—

ADAMS, John, private, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes; born at Bendigo, Victoria. Address, 4 Raglan-street, Mosman. Deserted prior to 22nd May 1915.


BOND, Jack, private, 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 ½ inches high, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes; born at Pyrmont, Sydney. Address, 26 Day-street, Leichhardt. Deserted 6th May 1915.


BORLAND, George Waddell, private, 42 ½  years of age, 5 feet 6 ¼  inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, tattooed on right arm; born at Lanarkshire, Scotland. Address, 196 Allison-street, Glasgow, Scotland. Deserted prior to 20th May 1915.
